Does a current “flow”?

--

Current is pretty confusing to students. They have to get to grips with millions of electrons moving through the wire. We define it as a “flow of charge”.

However, we often write “a current of 7 A flows…”

But if a current is already a flow of something – can it flow itself?

Genuine question. I think we’d be helping students out a lot to say “there is a current of 7 A in the wire” to prevent a double-flow conundrum.
